Subject: [Mining] Gold
Article:
It appears from a feasibility study conducted by Golden Star Resources and Cambior in the Gross Rosebell area that there is a sufficient amount of gold for the opening of a mine. The proven reserves amount to 185 million ounces (about 62000 kg). The mine construction will cost US $172 million. Some 1500 workers will be needed during the construction phase while about 800 permannent jobs will be created for the exploitation phase. The mine is expected to go into production on 1 Jan 1999.
A second company the Canarc Resources Corporation found gold deposits in the Saramacca area which appears promising for the opening of another mine.
